Gambling in the US reports new sales records
Gambling revenue in the United States continues to grow rapidly. On Wednesday, the American Gaming Association (AGA) announced that the turnover in May was the second-best result in history.
According to the AGA, gambling companies managed to get 5.03 billion US dollars for the month. Thus, May became the third month in a row after March and April when sales exceeded the USD 5 billion mark. According to the association, this is a new record.
Further growth is expected
Compared to last year, revenues of land-based casinos, bookmakers and online gaming operators increased by 7.9%. Despite some difficulties, the association expressed confidence that the growth will continue:
While challenges such as supply chain issues, labor shortages and inflation remain, commercial gaming remains on track for another potentially record-breaking year with revenue of $24.4 billion in the first five months. That's a 20.6% increase over the same period in 2021.
However, the published sales figures show that growth is developing very differently in different areas. At the same time, the best online casinos in Denmark continue to maintain a stable growth rate in all areas. Sports betting boom
The sports betting sector made a particular contribution to the gaming boom, growing 78.2% to $487.5 million according to the AGA. Online gambling also grew significantly by 30.9% to US$406 million.
The growth of casino table games was somewhat smaller. Thanks to this, gambling providers earned 873.9 million USD in May, which is 10.5% more than in the previous year.
Eighteen out of 31 legal gambling states have seen an increase in revenue since May 2021. Only the District of Columbia (-21.2%), Kansas (-0.8%), Mississippi (-2.5%), and South Dakota (-1.9%) suffered losses. From the AGA's perspective, this is because these states lifted corona restrictions earlier in 2021 so that even then higher sales could be achieved.
Nevada, on the other hand, is one of the emerging states. The "Silver State" with the gambling city of Las Vegas contributed $1.3 billion to the good result. Thus, Nevada recorded the highest revenue of all US states.
It seems that the only problem child of this fun month was slot machines. They made up the lion's share of $2.95 billion in sales but were down slightly by 0.1%.
In relation to the period from January to May 2022, the picture is much better. Classic slots also managed to get a plus of 11.0% here. Casino table games ( 38.2%), online gambling ( 45.6%) and sports betting ( 73.5%) were even stronger.
